Making Rice Krispies treats shaped and colored like autumn or Thanksgiving is the perfect way to create seasonal fun the kids can eat. This is a great kid-friendly autumn or Thanksgiving dessert you can make for, or with, the children well ahead of the holiday inspired by Two Sisters Crafting. Rice Krispies treats freeze great in an air-tight container and will last for up to a week at room temperature.
You Will Need:
12 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
12 cups Mini Marshmallows
12 tablespoons Butter (Sweet Cream, Salted)
Wilton Color Right Food Coloring
Autumn or Thanksgiving Cookie Cutters
What to Do:
1. You will need to make four different batches of Rice Krispies treats, one for each color. For each color melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a medium pan on medium heat.
2. Add 3 cups of Mini Marshmallows and stir them until they are melted.
3. On medium-low heat, stir the marshmallows continually until they are completely melted. As soon as the marshmallows are melted, take the pan off the heat. It’s important to not overcook the marshmallows.
4. Add the food coloring now before adding the cereal to make the color vibrant.
5. Add 3 cups of Rice Krispie cereal. Gently fold the marshmallow mixture and Rice Krispies until all of the cereal is completely covered with the melted butter and marshmallow mixture.
6. Allow the mixture to cool a bit so you can handle it safely but that it is still malleable. Start filling the cookie cutter(s) to form the shaped treats. Smooth the mixture in the cookie cutter so it’s level.
7. Push the treat out the back of the cookie cutter and make another one.
8. Then make the other batches of autumn colored Rice Krispies treat mixture and make other shapes.
9. Allow the treats to cool before you serve or store them.
