Pressed Dried Flower Sun Catchers

There’s something magical about turning nature into art! Making butterfly and circle sun catchers with pressed dried flowers is a beautiful way for nannies to encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and an appreciation for nature with kids. They are keepsakes they’ll be proud to display long after the craft is finished.

You Will Need:

Card Stock Paper
Butterfly Templates
Round Cookie Cutters
Pencil
Scissors
Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets
Tweezers
Dried Pressed Flowers (with flower press, microwave kit, or buy on Amazon)
Clear Tape

What to Do:

1. Read children’s books about flowers with the kids.

2. Print butterfly templates and trace circle cookie cutters onto card stock paper with a pencil. Cut out the shapes.

3. Place a sheet of self-adhesive laminating paper on a work surface with the sticky side facing up. Place a butterfly and / or a circle on the or self-adhesive laminating sheet.

4. Allow the children to place dried pressed flowers on the laminating sheets. Have them use tweezers to pick up fragile flowers.

5. Once they have filled their butterflies and circles with dried flowers lay another laminating sheet with the sticky side down to seal the sun catchers. Press out any air bubbles.

6. Use scissors to cut out the shapes leaving the laminating sheet around the border of the paper to ensure the sun catchers stay sealed.

7. Hang in the window with clear tape.
