Earth Day Window Sun Catchers

April 19, 2023 4:30 am

Making sun catchers is an easy project to do with kids of any age. The 18-month-old toddler, 4-year-old, and 7-year-old I babysit for all love making sun catchers for every holiday and season.

I find using self-adhesive laminating sheets easier than using contact paper. I recommend purchasing some self-adhesive laminating sheets by tapping the links previously posted or in the supplies list below. I also like using pre-cut paper tissue squares but colored cellophane sheets look wonderful for this project as well.

Click here to read children’s books about Earth Day while doing this project.

I may make a small profit when visitors purchase items using the affiliate links within this blog post and on my storefront.

You Will Need:

Earth Templates, Google to find
Black or Green Card Stock Paper
Clear Contact Paper or Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets
Tissue Paper Squares or Colored Cellophane<
Scissors
X-Acto Knife
Children’s Books about Earth Day

What to Do:

1. Print Earth templates onto card stock paper.

2. Cut out the outside of the Earth template with scissors and the inside with X-Acto knife.

3. Place the shapes on clear contact paper or self-adhesive laminating sheets.

4. Have the child place tissue paper squares or colored cellophane onto the sticky paper inside the Earth shape.

5. Place another piece of clear contact paper or self-adhesive laminating sheet on top of the shapes to seal them.

6. Trim the Earth leaving a little contact paper or laminating sheets around the edges of the shapes.

7. Have the child hang the sun catchers in a window.
