Sidewalk Chalk Paint

This is a non-toxic and washable, three ingredient art supply for some summer fun. Children can paint on their driveway and once this sidewalk chalk paint dries the colors are vibrant and beautiful. We used this beautiful food coloring. We didn’t use filters for these photos! We experimented with the recipe. The children in my care preferred a watery paint so we brought out a pitcher of water with us to keep adding water to the paint cups. I recommend only painting on a black top since I’m not sure if this will stain light sidewalks or stones.

You Will Need:

Corn Starch
Food Coloring
Water
Paint Cups or Mason Jars
Spoons
Paint Brushes

What to Do:

1. I had the kids measure 1/2 cup corn starch to each mason jar.

2. I had them add about 1/2 cup of water to each jar.

3. It’s difficult to mix at first but mix until the cornstarch is thoroughly mixed with the water.

4. Have the child add different colors to each jar and mix well. Allow them to add several drops of food coloring to each jar until they have a color they like.

5. Use paint brushes to paint the black top driveway.

6. Allow kids to add more water to have the paint the consistency they prefer.
