Apple Dumpling Dessert

Cooking With Kids

Kids love this easy apple dumpling dessert found on Food Network because it tastes like apple pie but they each can enjoy their own individual dessert. Simply core and peel apples and wrap them in their own pastry shell before baking.

What You Need:

4 cups flour
2 cups shortening
1 cup ice cold water
1 teaspoon salt
4 large apples, peeled and cored
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

What to Do:

 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Lightly grease a cake pan.
3. Core and peel four apples.
4. Mix flour, shortening, and ice cold water and salt to prepare dumpling pastry.
5. Roll the pastry into a rectangle, 10-inch by 8-inch. Cut out four (4-inch squares) with pastry cutter or knife.
6. Place apple on each square. Spoon 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon into the center of each apple.
7. Moisten corners of the pastry and pinch the edges of the pastry to seal.
8. Brush with slightly beaten egg and sprinkle with additional sugar.
9. Bake 30-minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender.
