As the air crispens and the leaves begin to turn, fall brings a whole new world of rich, cozy fragrances to explore. Put familiar autumn scents in jars and see if kids can identify the scents and match them to the cards I have created for this game.
You Will Need:
Small containers: Use opaque plastic cups, small jars, or spice bottles.
Lids or covers: Use paper or foil with small holes poked in the top, or a cloth secured with a rubber band.
Cotton balls: Place a few drops of liquid extract or essential oil on these if using extracts.
Blindfold: Optional, to make the guessing more exciting.

Autumn Scent Ideas
Cinnamon
Apple (fresh slices or apple cider)
Pumpkin pie spice
Vanilla extract
Pine needles
Coffee grounds
Blood orange or mandarin
What to Do:
1. Set up the jars: Place a small amount of each autumn item or a scented cotton ball inside each container. Cover the top so kids cannot peek inside.
2. Take a sniff: Have the child close their eyes or put on a blindfold. Hand them one container at a time.
3. Describe and guess: Ask the child to take a deep sniff and describe what the scent smells like before guessing what the mystery object is.
4. Match or reveal: Let them match the jar to a picture card or reveal the real item after they guess.
