When looking for an easy treat to make for the kids this autumn this apple pie bake saves the day. Combining tart Granny Smith and sweet Gala apples wrapped in flaky pie crust, this toddler-approved recipe is basically apple pie in a baking dish instead of a pie plate. I hope your nanny kids like this recipe from Truly Recipes as much as mine did!
You Will Need:
For the bars
1 (15-ounce) package pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie
1/3 cup all-purpose flour plus more for flouring work surfaces
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 Granny Smith apples peeled and sliced
3 Gala apples peeled and sliced

For the topping
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
What to Do:
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Lightly roll 1 pie crust onto a floured work surface.
3. Press the pie crust into a 9×13-inch baking dish, using any leftover pieces to fill the corners.
4. In a large bowl, whisk the white sugar, the flour, the cinnamon, and the nutmeg together.
5. Toss the apple slices in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
6. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the pie crust in the prepared baking dish.
7. Roll out the remaining pie crust and place it over the apple layer, folding the edges over to completely cover the apples.
8. Bake until the crust is golden, about 45-50 minutes.
9. Remove the apple bars from the oven and allow them to cool for 20 minutes.
10. Whisk the confectioners’ sugar, the milk, and the vanilla extract together until smooth.
11. Drizzle the topping over the bars.
12. Cut into squares with a bakery knife and serve.
