You don’t need fancy design skills to create checklists that makes routines more fun and manageable! Kids love checking things off, seeing their progress, and feeling proud of what they can do all by themselves. For nannies, using these checklists are a fun way to build independence, responsibility, and confidence.
You Will Need:
Canva, Google Docs, or Chat GPT
Printer
Printer Paper
Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets
Dry Erase Markers
What to Do:
1. Start with the routine
Choose one routine such as morning, bedtime, getting ready for school, setting table and clearing table, cleaning up Legos, or sports practice.
2. Keep it short
Depending on the child’s age and abilities, aim for about 5 to 10 simple tasks so kids don’t feel overwhelmed.
3. Use kid-friendly words
Keep instructions short and easy to understand, such as “Brush Teeth” or “Put Shoes On.”
4. Add pictures
Add simple pictures using clip art or by adding photos of the child’s actual belongings. Visuals are especially helpful for younger children.
5. Give every task a checkbox
There’s something satisfying about checking off a job when it’s finished!
6. Let kids help create it
Ask children what they need to remember and let them choose pictures, fonts, stickers, or decorations.
7. Try Canva, Google Docs, or AI
Use apps or AI to easily create colorful printable checklists using templates, icons, emojis, and text boxes.
8. Laminate it for repeated use
I like using high quality self-adhesive laminating sheets to make the checklists reusable. Kids can use a dry-erase marker and start fresh every day.
9. Make checking it off rewarding
The reward doesn’t have to be a prize. A sticker, high-five, “Great job!” or simply seeing the completed list can provide plenty of motivation.
