Patriotic Trifle

Red and blue berries make are the natural colors to use for any summertime patriotic holiday. This patriotic trifle has layers of strawberries, blueberries, and cheesecake pudding making it perfect for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day. Allow the children to help you wash the berries and layer the fruit and cream for this easy, yet impressive, dessert.

You Will Need:

4 Quart Trifle or Clear Bowl
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped
2 quarts strawberries, halved, divided
2 quarts blueberries, divided

What to Do:

1. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and extracts until fluffy. Fold in whipped cream. 

2. Place a third of the mixture in a 4-qt. bowl. Reserve 20 strawberry halves and 1/2 cup blueberries for garnish.

3. Layer half of the remaining strawberries and blueberries over cream mixture. 

4. Top with another third of the cream mixture and the remaining berries. Spread the remaining cream mixture on top. 

5. Use the reserved strawberries and blueberries to decorate the top of the trifle.
