Coffee Filter Earth Day Sun Catchers

There’s something magical about turning the simplest materials into a tiny version of our big, beautiful planet. This Earth Day (or honestly, any day), try this simple coffee filter Earth sun catcher craft. All you need are coffee filters, blue and green markers, and a water squirt bottle. That’s it. No glitter explosions. No complicated setup. Just a little color and a little science.

You Will Need:

Craft Mat or Disposable Plastic Tablecloth
Coffee Filters
Green and Blue Markers
Squirt Bottle of Water
Clear Tape

What to Do:

1. Protect the work surface with a water proof plastic tablecloth or craft mat.

2. Start by laying out the coffee filters flat and inviting the kids to draw an Earth. Encourage them to draw blobs, swirls, and squiggles—this isn’t geography class. Blue for oceans, green for land, and plenty of imagination in between. The more color they add, the better the final effect.

3. Next comes the fun part: the water. Lightly mist the filter with the spray bottle and watch the colors bloom and blend like watercolor magic.

4. Let them dry completely. Tape them to a sunny window.
