I found and adapted this super simple bunny bun recipe for spring (or Easter) to make with children on the mykidslickthebowl web site. Kids love helping bake and they will love these adorable bunnies they can eat after making them. The children and I used a baking sheet with parchment paper instead of a baking dish and we made a tiny nose out of dough for the buns as well.
You Will Need:
1 Kitchen Mixer
1 Dough Hook
Baking Sheet
Parchment Paper
1 Cup Plain Yogurt
1 Cup Self-Rising Flour
1/4 teaspoon Salt
Butter for Greasing
Edible Markers
What to Do:
1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.
2. Place yogurt, flour, and salt in a bowl. Combine well until the dough comes together in a ball. Use a kitchen stand mixer with a dough hook or a wooden spoon and some elbow grease.
3. If the dough is a little too wet to work with add an extra tablespoon of flour.
4. On a dry floured surface. Divide the dough into 6 even pieces. From each of these 6 pieces you will be making a larger ball for the head and 2 smaller balls for bunny ears, and one tiny ball for a nose.
5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
6. Place the 6 larger balls evenly on the baking sheet. These will be the bunny bun faces.
7. Roll the smaller balls into short stubby ears. Place them in pairs so that they touch the larger balls. Add a tiny ball for a nose on the bun.
8. Optional: brush the bunny buns with a little melted butter.
9. Bake the bunny buns for 20 minutes. You can cover the ears with tin foil if they start to brown too quickly.
10. Decorate the bunny face with edible markers. We made eyes. You can add whiskers if you like.
