Jell-O No-Cook Edible Play Dough

Homemade play dough is always the ultimate boredom buster. Children love measuring and mixing the ingredients and watching it turn into play dough that provides hours of imaginary, kneading, sculpting, and rolling fun.

This Jell-O play dough smells so good, is bright and colorful, and so non-toxic it’s actually edible. It is a great, quick, and safe sensory dough for kids to play with I found on thecraftathomefamily web site.

Also be sure to try making play dough with cream of tartar — which is my favorite homemade play dough. Then, try making great smelling cloud dough, a corn starch play dough, and this baking soda and corn starch play dough to see which recipe the children in your care like the best.

I highly recommend making this Jell-O play dough recipe with the kids. It doesn’t keep for days and I had the kids wear vinyl gloves with the red dough since it stained hands. But, I’m sure your Nanny Kids will absolutely adore the smell and texture of this homemade, no-cook, Jell-O dough like mine did.

You Will Need:

1 Box (3 oz) Jell-O Powder
¾ Cup Corn Starch
3-4 Tablespoons Water, as needed
1 teaspoon Vegetable Oil

What to Do:

1. Pour Jell-O powder into a medium bowl.

2. Add cornstarch and stir until combined.

3. Add 2 tablespoons of water and work it into the cornstarch with your hands until it has spread throughout. Repeat with a third tablespoon of water. If needed, repeat with a fourth tablespoon of water. The mixture should have a dough-like consistency.

4. Add ½ teaspoon of vegetable oil and knead it into the dough using your hands. Repeat with a second ½ teaspoon of vegetable oil. (You can skip the second ½ teaspoon if the dough is too sticky).

5. Test the play dough’s consistency. It should be a bit crumbly, but easy to shape into a ball. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more cornstarch. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water by wetting your hands and kneading until the water from your hands has made its way into the dough. Play immediately.
