Creative Wednesdays
I’m always looking for new games to play with the kids in their backyard in the summertime. So I had the kids decorate paper plates to make paddles to play with balloons. Have children decorate the paper plate paddles in red, white, and blue for Independence Day. Have the kids make up games such as trying to keep the balloons from falling to the ground or run from one part of the yard to the other side of the yard with the balloons on their handmade paddles without dropping them.
You Will Need:
Heavy Weight Paper Plates such as Chinet Plates
Crayons, Markers, or Paint
Red, White, or Blue Balloons
Large Popsicle Sticks
Clear Packing Tape
Stickers (optional)
What to Do:
1. Have the kids decorate heavyweight paper plates (like Chinete) or tape two or three cheap plates together to make them thicker and stiffer with red and blue crayons, markers, paints and/or stickers in patriotic designs.
2. Using packing tape attach large popsicle sticks to the back of the plate.
3. Blow up red, white, and blue balloons.
4. Have the kids use their imaginations to make up games with the paddles and balloons such as timing how long they can keep the balloons up in the air without having them touch the ground.
