Although my doctor and the CDC recommend avoiding grocery stores to ensure social distancing, my Nanny Family and I haven’t been able to find any grocery delivery or curb side pick up slots available in the past five weeks.
In a 60 Minutes article Feeding the Nation and plenty of news articles all over the internet this week I learned we are already are having a hunger crisis due to coronavirus and the news articles predict it is going to get worse before it gets better.
Before coronavirus, Anderson Cooper reports that it is estimated that 24 million cases of food were sold to restaurants in bulk every single day. But now restaurants are closed and ones open are at low capacity.
For food packaging plants to transition from selling in bulk to restaurants to single individual packing to grocery stores takes time and money.
Also many of the workers in food processing plants and meat processing plants are foreign undocumented workers who weren’t getting tested for Covid with fears of deportation. Currently, processing and packing plants have closed with hundreds of workers sick.
The food supply chain in America is breaking.

Fugate believes the shortages we are already seeing in the grocery stores are just the tip of the iceberg.
So I decided to look for smaller, local food distributers that may want to sell fresh foods to individuals and lucked out.
