How Do You Get Kids to Eat their Vegetables?
Almost every nanny has struggled to get kids to eat their vegetables. I have found it’s easier to get the little ones to eat their veggies when I add cheese to the healthy side dish. Here are the three easiest ways to add cheese to broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, or even baked potatoes.
Quick Microwave Cheddar Cheese Sauce
3 Tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Place broccoli in a steamer over 1 inch of boiling water, and cover. Cook until tender but still firm, about 2 to 6 minutes. Drain and transfer to a microwave safe casserole dish. Pour 3 tablespoons of melted butter over broccoli (use more or less, to taste) and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top and microwave, on high, for 1 minute, or until cheese is melted.
Microwave American Cheese Sauce
12 slices American Cheese
1/2 cup milk
Microwave the milk in small microwaveable bowl on high for one minute. Stir in chopped cheese and microwave one minute or until the cheese is completely melted and sauce is well blended. Stir every 30 seconds. Pour onto vegetables.
Evaporated Milk Cheese Sauce
1 small can evaporated milk
1/4 lb. American cheese, shredded
Stir over low heat until the cheese melts. Serve over broccoli, cauliflower green beans, or baked potatoes.
