10 Little Pumpkins & Ghosts: Storytime Meets Craft Time

Combine reading and creativity with “Ten Little Jack-O’-Lanterns” by Amanda Sobotka and “Ten Little Ghosts!“ by Amanda Sobotka. These fun Halloween books help children practice counting, build early literacy skills, and enjoy the excitement of the season. After reading, extend the fun with two simple, hands-on crafts that turn the stories into playful, counting, learning experiences.

Jack-O’-Lantern Craft:

After reading “10 Little Jack-O’Lanterns” give children 10 orange circle stickers and a piece of black construction paper. Invite them to use markers to draw different pumpkin faces on the stickers with a fine-tip black marker, then arrange them in two rows of five. The child in my care glued craft sticks to the paper to make the pumpkins sit on a fence.

Ghost Fingerprint Craft:

After reading “Ten Little Ghosts!” have the children make 10 white paint fingerprints on black construction paper. Once the paint dries, use a fine-tip black marker to add eyes and mouths to turn each fingerprint into a little ghost.

These easy activities encourage counting, creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression, all while making Halloween memories with your nanny kids!
