Children are dazzled with butterflies and their vibrant beauty. After reading children’s books about butterflies, (see below), I used cardboard rolls, punched out cardstock paper, and craft supplies to make butterflies with the children in my care.

You Will Need:
Craft Mat
Cardboard Tubes
Washable Paint
Scissors
Pencil
Colorful Cardstock Paper
Circle Punches
Chenille Stems
Googly Eyes
Pom Poms
Glue Sticks
Scotch Tape
Markers
What to Do:
- Read children’s books about butterflies, (see below).
- Protect the work surface with a craft mat, newspaper, or plastic tablecloths.
- Paint the cardboard rolls and allow them to dry.
- As the cardboard rolls are drying cut out wings from cardstock paper. Use the cardboard tube as a guide to make sure you make them the right size.
- Allow the children to decorate the butterfly’s wings using card stock paper shapes and circles and glue sticks and pom poms.
- Take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Then fold it in half and bend the ends over to create the antenna. Stick this to the top of the tube on the inside using tape.
- Stick two googly eyes to the front of the cardboard tube.
- Use a black marker to draw a mouth.
