Peanut Butter Play Dough

The children in my care are on a homemade play dough kick. Two weeks ago we made Jell-O Play Dough. Last week they absolutely loved making and playing with Frosting Play Dough. This week they asked to try edible Peanut Butter Play Dough.

I found this play dough on the busylittlekiddies web site can also be made into cookies to eat or ornaments. I used a food processor to grind oats into a flour because it is not safe to eat regular all-purpose flour.

Also be sure to try making play dough with cream of tartar — which is my favorite homemade play dough. Then, try making great smelling cloud dough, a corn starch play dough, and this baking soda and corn starch play dough to see which recipe the children in your care like the most.

You Will Need:

1 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
5 Tablespoons Maple Syrup, Honey, Agave Syrup, or Golden Syrup
3/4 Cup Oat Flour (see instructions below)

What to Do:

1. Use a food processor or blender to blend the oats on high speed into a fine powder.

2. Mix peanut butter and maple syrup In a microwave-safe bowl.

3. Microwave for 30 seconds to soften, stir until evenly combined, and a peanut butter paste forms.

4. Stir in oat flour. Start with 1/2 cup, then gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup to ensure the dough is not getting too dry.

5. Use your hands to knead and form a soft dough. You can also add a bit of vegetable oil if too dry.

6. Store in the fridge in an airtight container or bake into cookies or ornaments.
