One of the most popular finger plays is the “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” It’s fun using props to act out the story while singing the song. I had my school-aged Nanny Kid help make the characters in the song for her younger sibling. Click here to learn how to use other finger plays with the children in your care. Don’t forget to read “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” book too.
You Will Need:
3 Empty Cardboard Tubes
Construction Paper
Chenille Stems
Scissors
Markers
Glue
Googly Eyes (optional)
Itst Bitsy Sider Book
What to Do:
1. Cut out rectangle strips of paper to fit cardboard rolls. I used yellow paper for the sun, black paper for the spider, and white paper for the cloud and rain. Glue the strips of paper to the cardboard tubes.
2. Cut out a sun from yellow paper. Cut out a circle from black paper for the spider. Cut out a cloud from white paper and raindrops from blue paper.
3. Allow the children to decorate the character faces. Attach the faces onto the cardboard tubes.
4. Cut black chenille stems in half to make 8 legs for the spider. I poked the legs into the spider cardboard tubes.
5. Use the characters while singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” song and reading “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” book.
