“The Dancing Dragon” by Marcia K. Vaughan

Weekly Trip to the Library

Today starts the Chinese New Year — the Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar.

The Dancing Dragon by Marcia K. Vaughan is a great book to share with your Nanny Kids for Chinese New Year. It is a rhyming tale in which the story literally unfolds — in an accordion style the entire book unfolds to become a long, colorful dragon like the one on the Chinese New Year parade.

How the book is created to unfold into a dragon at the Chinese New Year Parade is what makes this book so special.

The Dancing Dragon is a colorful and entertaining book telling the story of the Chinese New year celebration from the eyes of a Chinese-American boy in China Town. It describes the preparations and finishes with the Chinese New Year parade as you unfold the dragon.
