Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky is a great book to share with the children this Autumn. It captures the atmosphere and activity at a pumpkin patch. As the family takes a hayride through the pumpkin patch they point out many different shapes using imagery words that describe the season.

It is a colorful, rhyming story and a terrific way to teach children about shapes. The story invites children to pick out shapes from the seasonal scenery. From wagon wheel circles, to square hay bales, and diamond kites in the sky. Explore the vibrant farm scenes and search for rectangles, ovals, stars, and more among the autumn colors.
