Cooking for Kids
It is really easy to make French toast. Rather than throwing out slightly stale bread use it to make this breakfast favorite for the kids. Feel free to add accents such as cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, or orange flavor to the egg mixture, or toppings such as fruit, flavored syrups, or powdered sugar to make French toast more interesting. Instead of using regular pre-sliced sandwich bread, try making the recipe with challah, sour dough, and we used cinnamon raisin bread when making our French toast pictured here. Here’s what to do:
You Will Need:
Bread (slightly stale is even better than fresh)
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
Spices and flavorings such as 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Syrup (optional)
Whipped cream (optional)
What to Do:
1.Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium-high.
2. Beat together the eggs, milk, and spices.
3. Dip one slice of bread in the egg mixture. Place the bread in the pan and cooking each side until golden brown. Continue with the next slice of bread.
4. Serve with maple or flavored syrup, whipped cream, fruit, or powdered sugar.
