Essential oils are used to improve moods of babies and children. They can be applied topically through the skin in lotions, through inhalation, or be used in a bath. While using aromatherapy and essential oils is generally safe to use small amounts in diffusers, candles, and lotions, there is a chance of allergic reactions.
Lavender:
Lavender aromatherapy has been shown to reduce crying in infants and promote sleep in infants and adults and can be used for burns.
Menthol and Eucalyptus:
Menthol is commonly used as a decongestant in ointments and inhalants.
Chamomile:
Chamomile tea is used for calming the nerves, but can also treat various skin issues (such as sunburn or eczema), the respiratory system (including asthma) and sprains and strains
Peppermint:
Peppermint tea helps relieve an upset stomach ad improve digestion. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, applying a small amount of peppermint oil to the temples and forehead can help reduce tension headaches. To use peppermint oil for headaches, first mix one part of the peppermint oil to 9 parts of ethanol or unflavored alcohol. Swab the mixture on the forehead and allow it to evaporate. Discontinue using the oil immediately if you develop any redness or pain.
Mint:
Mint is often used to help nausea and vomiting.
Lemon:
Lemon oil may possess anti-depressant-type effects. Lemon also makes a great natural cleaner and aids digestion.
Rosemary:
Rosemary is used to repel lice. It is also known to de-stress by reducing cortisol levels improving mood and boosts performance. Rosemary tea is useful in aiding headaches, coughs and flu symptoms.
Ginger:
Ginger tea clears out sinuses and sore throats and works well for muscle cramps and back pain.
