After reading “Our Lunar New Year” by Yobe Qiu children will love creating their own Chinese New Year fan because it’s bright, hands-on, and lets little artists explore bold colors, practice fine motor skills with folding and decorating, and learn about traditions connected to Chinese New Year. You Will Need:
3 Pieces of Paper
Markers
2 Craft Sticks
Glue Stick or Hot Glue
1 Tiny Hairband
What to Do:
1. Read “Our Lunar New Year” by Yobe Qiu.
2. Allow the children to decorate paper with markers.
3. Score each paper every 1/2 inch. You can fold it without scoring, but scoring will help children get even folds all the way across.
4. Accordion fold each piece of paper. Then, fold each paper in half.
5. Using a glue stick or hot glue, paste each of three fan pieces together until you have one seam left.
6. Glue a craft stick to each side. Close with a mini hairband.
7. Once the glue is dry, open up the fan and enjoy! Tip: use the mini hairband to hold the craft sticks together when your fan is open
