“Adventure Nannies: Tales of Wonder, Wildness, and Wisdom” is the quickest read I have had this summer with just 116-pages featuring first-person accounts from 10 nannies, compiled by the CEO of the nanny placement agency Adventure Nannies.
The background stories of the 10 nannies show that people of varying cultures, educational backgrounds, and previous careers work as nannies.
The stories show these nannies have more to offer than just what they can fit onto a typical nanny resume. Each memoir illustrates how the caregivers serve as educators, confidantes, entrepreneurs, problem-solvers — and sometimes even crisis counselors — while forging deeply meaningful bonds with the children in their care.
I would have loved to have read about a male nanny’s biography and his adventure into the world of working as a nanny as well.
I am not sure how many people working in other professions will pick up this book, but if they do, I hope that “Adventure Nannies: Tales of Wonder, Wildness, and Wisdom” challenges stereotypes and reveals the true nature of the nanny profession, celebrating the resilience, compassion, and expertise of nannies.
