Rainbow Slime

Kids love rainbows and slime. So I combined the love of both and the children in my care and I made 4 colors of slime. To make rainbows you will need to make 6 colors of slime from the recipe I found at thebestideasforkids.com. See how to make slime with laundry detergent by tapping here, glitter slime with liquid starch by clicking here, and tap here to see a bunch of homemade play dough recipes we have made.

You Will Need:

6 (6 ounce) Bottles Clear Elmer’s Glue (one for each color) or 4 ½ Cups Clear Glue (divided into ¾ cup increments)
About ½ Cup Warm Water
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 tablespoon Contact Lens Solution (contains boric acid)
Food Coloring
Add-Ins Like Glitter and Foam Balls (optional)

What to Do:

1. You will be making six separate batches of slime with one for each color.

2. Empty the glue into a large bowl.

3. Pour about 1/4 cup of water into bowl with glue and stir to combine.

4. Next, add the baking soda to the glue and stir to mix thoroughly.

5. Add the food coloring as noted below and mix

6. Add in the contact lens solution to the glue mixture and stir well. Note: regular glue will require less contact lens solution than glitter glue. Add the contact lens solution slowly, mixing between additions, and add only enough to bring the glue together into a soft ball.

7. Add in extras like glitter if you wish.

8. Remove the slime from the bowl allowing any excess liquid to remain in the bowl.

9. The slime will be sticky. Begin to play with the slime, kneading it as you would bread dough, to bring the slime together. The slime is ready when no longer sticky.

How Much Food Coloring to Use:

Red – 10 drops red food coloring

Orange – 5 drops yellow food coloring and 3 drops red food coloring

Yellow – 10 drops yellow food coloring

Green – 10 drops green food coloring

Blue – 10 drops blue food coloring

Purple – 5 drops red food coloring and 4 drops blue food coloring
