Making a sidewalk chalk portrait with the kids for Father’s Day is a fun, interactive, meaningful, and low-cost way for you to help the children in your care celebrate the occasion.
I recommend using a bowl of water to wet the chalk to make it easier to draw more vibrant letters, lines, and shapes. I used a flat cardboard box as a flat edge to help draw straight lines and to write letters when using sidewalk chalk. You can use large stencils as well. If you have difficulty bending try using a Walkie Chalk stick to draw with sidewalk chalk without having to sit or kneel on the ground.
You Will Need:
Sidewalk Chalk
Bowl of Water
Stencils (optional)
Smartphone or Camera
Frame
What to Do:
- Using sidewalk chalk, write the words, “Our Dad is Out of This World” on the family driveway or sidewalk. Consider using stencils to make writing letters easier.
- Have the kids help you draw planets, stars, the sun, and spaceships on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.
- Have the children lay on the driveway and take a photo. I had the kids wear astronaut costumes they already owned. The children don’t need to wear astronaut costumes to make this gift though.
- Print out the photo and put it in an inexpensive frame for the children to give to their favorite man in their lives as a gift for Father’s Day.
