It’s finally spring this week in my neck of the woods and the children I care for have enjoyed finding the new blossoms of yellow forsythia, pink cherry trees, and white apricot trees in the neighborhood.
After reading, “Spring is Here” by Heidi Pross Gray help the children in your care make their own spring blossoms with tissue paper and popcorn.
In “Spring is Here” children will discover the world as it wakes from its winter slumber as the flowers blossom, the animals come out from their resting places, and nature comes alive during this season of renewal.
“Spring is Here” is a wonderful, wholesome book about the spring season, tying family and nature together in a book that will leave little ones feeling excited about spring!

Cherry Blossoms
You Will Need:
Pink Tissue Paper Squares
Brown Marker or Paint Marker
White Glue
Disposable Cup
Cotton Swabs and/or Paint Brushes
1. Prepare the project by drawing a brown trunk and brown branches on the heavyweight paper for the kids. Spread branches all over the paper.
2. Using 1-inch to 2-inch tissue paper squares have the kids scrunch the tissue paper into balls.
3. Allow the children to dip cotton swabs or paint brushes into disposable cup of glue. Have them dab the glue on the branches and attach a tissue paper ball onto the glue.

Apricot Tree
You Will Need:
Popcorn
Heavyweight Paper
Brown Marker
Paper or Styrofoam Bowl
Glue
What to Do:
1. Play the song “Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree” for the kids and show them the dogwood and cherry blossoms outside on a Spring day.
2. Draw a trunk and branches of a tree on a piece of heavyweight paper with a brown marker.
3. Pour plenty of glue into a styrofoam or paper bowl and put plenty of popped popcorn into bowls as well.
4. Allow kids to dip the flattest side of a piece of popcorn into the glue and then stick onto the branches on the paper. Continue until the child is satisfied with their popcorn blossoms and allow to dry.

Forsythia
You Will Need:
Brown marker, crayon, or water color paint
Green marker, crayon, or water color paint
Yellow tissue paper
White or sky blue card stock paper
White glue
Gold sequins (optional)
What to Do:
1. Draw with a marker or paint slim brown branches on white paper for young children. Older kids should draw or paint their branches themselves.
2. Allow the kids to draw or paint a few green leaves on the branches as well. Caregivers can draw or paint the leaves for younger children.
3. Have the kids to tear pieces of yellow tissue paper and scrunch them into blossoms.
4. Let the children glue the blossoms on the branches for spring forsythia blossoms.
5. For children that don’t put tiny pieces in their mouths you can let them add gold sequins to the center of the tissue blossoms.
