“Duck and Goose” by Tad Hills and Sensory Bin

Parents love when nannies incorporate activities that correspond with their children’s favorite books. “Duck and Goose” by Tad Hills is a great board book series to share with toddlers. I made a sensory bin for the toddler in my care to play with while reading her favorite books “Duck and Goose” to her.

In this first book of the series “Duck and Goose,” the two main characters have to work at getting along. Duck doesn’t much care for Goose at first, and Goose isn’t fond of Duck. But both want the egg that each claims to be his. As the two tend to their egg, and make plans for the future, they come to appreciate one another’s strengths. And when a bluebird points out that it isn’t really an egg—it’s a polka dot ball — the two are not dismayed. After all, it is a beautiful ball.

You Will Need:

Sensory Play Bin
Indoor Play Sand
Rubber Duckies
Sensory Toys
Nesting Cups
Scoops

What to Do:

  1. Read “Duck and Goose” by Tad Hills
  2. Protect play surface with a sheet, tablecloth, or towel. Not only does this protect the play area, but it makes cleanup much easier.
  3. Fill the bin with indoor sand, rubber ducks, spoons, scoops, nesting cups, toys and whatever else you have on hand into the bin.
  4. Play!
