Pom-Pom Valentine’s Card Box

An older girl in my care is so excited for Valentine’s Day! To help her build anticipation for the holiday I helped her make a Valentine’s card box to hold all the Valentine’s cards she gets from school, friends, and family.  I got the idea from designedimprovised.com. Children will need assistance with cutting out the slot and using the hot glue.

You Will Need:

Paper Mache or Cardboard Heart-Shaped Box
X-Acto Knife
Pink, Red, and White Pom-Poms
Red Craft Paint or Pink Craft Paint (if needed)
Paint Brushes (if needed)
Hot Glue Gun

What to Do:

  1. Protect the work surface with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth so it doesn’t get paint or glue on it.
  2. The adult should cut a slot in the top of the box large enough to accommodate Valentine’s cards by carefully scoring the box with an X-Acto knife.
  3. Allow the child to paint the box with red or pink paint if using uncolored box.
  4. Once dry help the child glue pom-poms anywhere they like on their box. Keep a small bowl of ice water near where you are working in case you get burned by hot glue.
