“Martin Luther King the Peaceful Warrior” and Peace Sun Catcher

To prepare for Martin Luther King Jr. Day read children’s books about the civil rights leader and make a peace sun catcher to recognize Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

In “Martin Luther King the Peaceful Warrior” by Ed Clayton readers follow the inspiring life of Martin Luther King Jr. in a moving, vital, and informative book by an author and an illustrator with close ties to Dr. King’s family.

Martin Luther King the Peaceful Warrior” by Ed Clayton was written in 1964 and appropriate for older kids about 8- to 12-years-old. So feel free to read other great children books about the civil rights leader such as, “Be a King” by Carole Boston Weatherford, “I Have a Dream” by Kadir Nelson, or “Martin’s Big Words” by Doreen Rappaport with younger kids.

You Will Need:

Children’s Books About Martin Luther King Jr.

5. Place the peace sign on the self-adhesive laminating sheet.

6. Have the child place tissue paper squares onto the sticky sheet inside of the peace sign.

7. Place another piece of self-adhesive laminating sheet on top of the peace sign to seal them.

8. Trim the shapes leaving a bit of laminating sheets around the edges of the peace sign.

9. Use a hole punch to make a small hole at the top of the peace sign.

10. String twine, yarn, or ribbon through the hole to hang the sun catcher in a window.
