“The Three Little Pigs” Story and DIY Puppets

My Nanny Kids love puppets and puppet shows. Puppetry is a great way to promote story telling and to foster language, imagination, communication, and more.

Using construction paper, white and pink paper plates, jumbo or extra large craft sticks, crayons, markers, glue sticks, and hot glue, I made a few quick puppets for the story of “The Three Little Pigs” for them to play with.

After reading the original folktale, “The Three Little Pigs” by Paul Galdone I let the kids play with the puppets to play the characters in the book. They don’t need to follow the story accurately. Allow them to be creative and adjust the story however they like.

In the original story “The Three Little Pigs,” three piglets leave home to build their own houses. The first piglet builds a straw house, the second a stick house, and the third a brick house.

A “Big Bad Wolf” comes along and easily blows down the straw and stick houses, but is unable to destroy the sturdy brick house, ultimately leaving the third pig safe and sound, highlighting the importance of hard work and planning ahead.

The moral of the story is that hard work and building something strong leads to better protection and success.
