My Nanny Kids are getting excited to celebrate Hanukkah. I cut out menorah shapes from cardboard from the recycling bin. Then I cut out a little base to slide onto the menorahs so they will stand up. I allowed the children to decorate their menorahs with Sharpie Paint Pens, (which are the best product to color cardboard that I’ve found). Then they cut candle flames from glitter paper to attach to the top of their cardboard menorahs.

Be sure to read children’s books about menorahs including “Light the Menorah” by Jannie Ho, “The Bright Menorah” by Jessica Fappiano, and “Light the Menorah: A Hanukkah Handbook” by Jacqueline Jules.

You Will Need:
Cardboard
Pencil
Scissors
Sharpie Paint Pens
Glitter Paper
Double Sided Tape, Hot Glue, or Glue Stick

What to Do:
- Grab some flat cardboard from the recycling bin.
- Use a pencil to draw a menorah on the cardboard.
- Cut out the menorah.
- Trace the base of the menorah onto another piece of flat cardboard to make a base. Cut it out.
- Cut a slit on top of the base piece and a slit on the bottom of the menorah to attach the two pieces to have the menorah stand up.
- Protect the work space with newspaper or plastic tablecloth. Allow the children to decorate the menorahs.
- Cut out candle flames from the glitter paper.
- Attach the flames to the candle tops of the menorah with hot glue, double sided tape, or a glue stick.
