“My Book of Beautiful Oops!” by Barney Saltzberg and Activities

I love the book “My Book of Beautiful Oops!” by Barney Saltzberg. One part of social emotional development is the ability to “go with the flow.” Allowing ourselves to make mistakes and to adjust is a key part of maturity and a personality trait that can be difficult to teach unless given examples and practice.

My Book of Beautiful Oops!” is a small, joyful book that shows kids that there is no such thing as a mistake — life just presents us with events that open windows to new ways of seeing and thinking. It will resonate with those who are frozen by perfectionism, and it is also fun and positive for those kids who love imaginative interaction and exploration.

I found these corresponding activities to do with children after reading “My Book of Beautiful Oops!” by Barney Saltzberg. You can print these pages or make your own splats, splotches, lines, and dots on paper and provide the kids with crayons, markers, and to see what designs the kids come up with.
