Patriotic Paper Plate Purses

After reading “The Fourth of July Story” by Alice Dalgliesh, “Fireworks, Picnics, and Flags: The Story of the Fourth of July Symbols” by James Cross Giblin, and “Apple Pie Fourth of July” by Janet S. Wong I helped my Nanny Kids make these patriotic paper plate purses to prepare for the Fourth of July.

You Will Need:

White Paper Plates
Red and Blue Markers (optional)
Red, White, and Blue Paint
Paintbrushes
Stapler
Hole Punch
Yarn

What to Do:

1. Protect the work surface.

2. Fold a white paper plate in half.

3. For younger kids use red and blue markers to make American flag inspired patterns such as red and white stripes and blue and white stars for the kiddos tto follow when they paint.

4. Allow the kids to paint the paper plate in patriotic colors.

5. Once dry, staple the sides of the paper plate closed — leaving the top installed.

6. Punch a hole on the top-left and top-right (on the sides of the opening) of the plate.

7. String yarn through each hole knotting it to make a handle for the purse.
