Make a Sled after Reading “Snow Day!” By Lester L. Laminack

Going to the library with children weekly is fun. The parents you work for and the children you care for will love doing crafts projects that correspond to the children’s books you borrow from the library.

After reading “Snow Day!” by Lester L. Laminack make a sled out of craft sticks with the kids.

In the book, “Snow Day!” by Lester L. Laminack snow is in the forecast which immediately triggers dreams of the perfect snow day!

This of course includes sledding, among other snowy day favorites.

Unfortunately the forecast was incorrect. When the family wakes up that next morning, they find no snow! School is happening, and all their dreams of a winter wonderland are gone.

But as the family piles into the car to head to school, an unexpected twist reveals who wanted the snow day most of all.

You Will Need:

“Snow Day!” by Lester L. Laminack
5 Jumbo Craft Sticks
2 Regular Sized Craft Sticks
Tacky Glue or Hot Glue Gun
Chenille Stem or Yarn (8 inches)
Pom Poms (optional)

What to Do:

1. Read “Snow Day!” by Lester L. Laminack with the child.

2. Lay 5 jumbo craft sticks on table, side by side. You can lay the sticks in a basic rectangular shape or arrange them with a slight curve at the front and back like we did. (See photo)

3. Use tacky glue or a hot glue gun to attach the jumbo craft sticks to form the top of a sled.

4. When the glue is dry, add a smaller craft stick horizontally across the front of the sled and another at the back of the sled with tacky glue or hot glue.

5. Attach the ends of the chenille stem or yarn to Poms Poms. Once dry, attach the Pom Poms to the front of the sled.

6. Allow the child to decorate the sled in any way they like.
