CPR Training for Nannies

By Caitlin Goodwin, DNP, RN, CNM

For those tasked with the great responsibility of working as a nanny, protecting children is key.

Parents want the best for their families, and by emphasizing the critical role in-home childcare providers play in ensuring children’s safety, it is key that nannies adequately perform CPR for infants and children.

When performing emergency CPR on infants and children, the Basic Life Support (BLS) algorithm by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross are excellent tools.

I recommend taking online courses by Pacific Medical Training, or in-person classes by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross.

It is essential for nannies to know how to perform successful resuscitation for infants and children and to update their CPR certification regularly.

Caregivers who possess knowledge of managing emergencies confidently ensure that homes remain a safe haven for the children in their care.
