Despite working as a nanny for 30 years I can always find a new way to make Christmas ornaments each year. I found this super easy melted candy ornament idea on the frugalmomeh web site. Our ornaments turned out beautiful looking like stained glass.
You Will Need:
Hard Candies
Cookie Cutters
Parchment Paper
Baking Sheets
Toothpicks
Ribbon or Ornament Hangers
What to Do:
1. Preheat oven to 300 F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Lightly grease the inside of each cookie cutter. Place cookie cutters on parchment covered baking sheets.
2. Place candies (flat side down) inside the cookie cutters. For rings or wreaths, only place the candies around the outer edge.
3. Place one baking sheet in the oven at a time. Begin checking after 5 minutes. Remove from oven when the candies are melted and smooth on top.
4. Set the sheet on a cooling rack and allow the ornaments to cool for 2 minutes.
5. Carefully slide the parchment with the warm ornaments onto the rack.
6. To make a hole in the ornaments use a toothpick to poke the hole. Push the toothpick through the parchment a little and rotate gently to enlarge the hole. If the candy is still too warm the hole will fill back up; wait for a minute and try again.
7. Once the hole remains open, remove the toothpick and let the ornaments cool completely before handling.
8. Once cooked add ribbon or an ornament hanger to the hang the ornament.
