Standing Thanksgiving Turkeys

The school-aged children I care for loved decorating these standing 3D sculptures I make from cardboard for them. I just grab cardboard boxes from the recycling bin and cut out characters from cardboard. For this activity they used paint, pastels, and tissue paper squares to decorate their Thanksgiving turkeys.

You Will Need:

Turkey Template, remove legs
White Paper
Printer
Cardboard
X-Acto Knife
Scissors
Paint, Pastels and/or Tissue Paper Squares and Glue

What to Do:

1. Print a turkey template (don’t include the kegs) and draw the turkey onto cardboard and cut it out with scissors and an X-Acto knife.

2. Cut out two little pieces of cardboard to use as legs to allow the turkey to stand up. See my photo for examples.

3. Allow child to decorate the turkeys with paint and/or pastels and/or tissue paper squares and glue.

4. Cut two slits at bottom of turkey body. Cut two slits on top of the feet.

5. Slide the feet onto the turkey’s body and display in the child’s playroom or bedroom.
