Pasta Jewelry

There are two ways to color dry pasta with holes that can be threaded to make jewelry. Either color dry pasta using food coloring and a little water in a ziploc bag or paint the pasta with acrylic paint and allow the pasta beads to dry. Let the children help with any step coloring the pasta beads and jewelry that they can accomplish at their age and stage of development.

You Will Need:

Newspaper or Craft Mat
Pasta with Holes
Acrylic Paints or Food Coloring and Water
Ziploc Bags
Paint Brushes
White Glue
String
Plastic Needles
Tape

What to Do:

1. Protect work area with newspaper or use a crafts mat.

2. Either put a few drops of food coloring and a little water in a ziploc bag and add dry pasta. Zip the plastic bag and shake gently until pasta is colored. Use a different color in a different ziploc bag. Remove and dry on a baking sheet or craft mat. Or, use paint brushes and acrylic paint to paint the dry pasta and allow to dry on a craft mat.

3. Paint the dry colored pasta with a thin layer of white glue to add strength and shine to the pasta beads. Allow to dry on a craft mat.

4. Put a piece of tape on one end of the string so the pasta won’t fall off the string.

5. Thread string onto a plastic needle and allow the kids to string the pasta beads onto the string.

6. Once the jewelry is the length the child wants, knot the string to make a necklace or bracelet.
