Origami and Origami Puppets

Origami is the ultimate boredom buster that can be done anytime and anywhere. Japanese paper folding (origami) has been an art form for many centuries. In Japan folding paper is an important skill for children to learn just like learning to use scissors and learning to write letters. Little kids love when I make them origami and by the time my my Nanny Kids are in Kindergarten they can make basic origami shapes better than I can.

You can purchase the supplies to make these origami puppets and cranes by tapping the links below or by visiting my storefront by clicking here.

What to Do:

Origami Goldfish

We made this origami goldfish. The instructions for this goldfish are in the image found on origami-amazing blog.

Easy Origami Fish

This is an even easier fish origami than the goldfish we made. Here is how to fold a simple origami fish from EasyPeasyFun blog.

1. Start by folding a square piece of paper diagonally (both sides) and in half (one side) – crease and unfold as shown on the first image above.

2. Hold the paper as indicated with blue spots and fold towards the center to get a triangle shape.

3. Hold the right bottom corner of the triangle and fold it toward the center along the crease shown on the first image above.

4. Do the same with the other corner for a fish tail.

5. Draw an eye or use stickers to add eyes to the fish.

Origami Heart

Visit the wikihow web site to see another way to make an origami heart.

1. Start with a square piece of paper. Fold the paper in half diagonally to form a triangle.

2. Fold the right and left corners of the triangle to the top corner to form a diamond shape.

3. Fold the top corner of the diamond down to the bottom corner.

4. Tuck the corners of the diamond into the folded flap.

5. Fold the top two points of the diamond down to the bottom corner.

6. Tuck the points into the same flap to form the heart shape.

Origami Crane

This basic paper crane can be found on the thesprucecrafts web site.

1. Start by making an origami square base. Begin with the paper color side up.

2. Fold it in half diagonally and open. Then fold in half along the diagonal the other way.

3. Turn the paper over to the opposite side.

4. Fold the paper in half, crease well and open.

5. Then, fold again in the other direction.

6. Using the creases you have just made, bring the top three corners down toward the bottom of the paper. Flatten the model to complete your square base.

7. Fold the top left and right flaps into the center and unfold.

8. Fold the top of the model downward to create a horizontal fold that connects the diagonal folds you just made. Crease well, and then unfold. See the photos on the web site to see what the crane should look like.

9. Open the upper flap, pressing the sides of the model inwards at the same time. Flatten down, creasing well. When you are finished, your crane should look like the photo on the web site.

10. To complete the crane visit thesprucecrafts web site.
