Spin Art T-Shirt

By Stacie Gebeke

I love getting fun ideas to do with my Nanny Kids from other nannies. Stacie Gebeke is a stellar nanny with 33 years experience who often inspires me with the STEAM activities she shares on social media, (see her biography below). Here is how Stacie made a spin art t-shirt.

You Will Need:

Salad Spinner or Spin Art Machine
White Heavyweight Paper
Fabric Paint
T-Shirt
Cardboard or Grocery Bag
Scissor
Newspaper

What to Do:

1. Protect the work surface with newspaper.

2. Cut a circle from heavyweight paper to fit the t-shirt and the salad spinner or spin art machine.

3. Have the child drizzle fabric paint onto the paper.

4. Close the spinner and help the child spin the paper.

5. Put cardboard or grocery bag inside the t-shirt so the fabric paint doesn’t seep onto the back of the t-shirt.

6. Take the paper out of the spinner and turn it onto the t-shirt.

7. Follow the instructions for the fabric paint to finish the project.

Reference:

Stacie Gebeke has been a nanny for 33 years. She has cared for 41 children ranging in age from 2 days old to 14 years old. She started her career in Fargo ND then spent 13 years in PA and NJ before moving to NM in 2001. She believes strongly in creating a strong bond with each child and building on that bond to watch a child thrive. She is often found reading, singing, and being silly with the children in her care. Art is her favorite part of STEAM and she finds ways to encourage children to engage in it often. The rest gets played around with as well. One of her favorite beliefs is that anything worth learning can be taught through play and hands on experience. Her main goal with children is to show them respect, kindness, empathy, and compassion so that they can learn to treat others the same way.
